The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher. The original name of the area was 'Maghellan', which came from the Gallic word 'magh', which means fertile soil, and 'Ellan', from the monk St Fillan, which was closely related to the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had already been making whisky on their Speyside farms for several centuries.

This wonderful 18.75cl bottling of Macallan was distilled in April 1979 and bottled by the legendary Cadenhead's in May 1991.
