Bruichladdich was founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers on the western part of Islay. After a long history in 1994, a group of enthusiasts led by independent bottler Murray MacDavid took over the distillery in 2001 and relaunched production with Jim McEwan, elected several times "distiller of the year".

Bruichladdich released the Blacker Still in 2006, and it was matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks for 20 years. This was the first release in the ‘...Still’ series, and quickly became an icon of collectable Bruichladdich.
