Owned since the mid-sixteenth century by fifteen generations of the same family, Godet cognac is one of the oldest French family businesses.

Arriving from the Netherlands in 1550, Bonaventure Godet established a wine merchant on the quay of La Rochelle. Nearly forty years later, the future Henry IV thanked him, in a letter dated December 23, 1581, for a decanter of "brandwijn" offered to the King of Navarre, King of France.
