The original name of the area was 'Maghellan', which came from the Gallic word 'magh', which means fertile soil, and 'Ellan', from the monk St Fillan, which was closely related to the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had already been making whisky on their Speyside farms for several centuries. Distilled in 1974, this was was bottled in 1992. These early releases were packaged in the instantly recognisable purple-sashed white boxes, featuiring the Sara Midda watercolours of Easter Elchies house, synonymous with Macallan of the period. This particular bottle is presented in a lovely and historic gift-set which includes two fine Jacobite Whisky Glasses. 70cl/43%
