The distillery was built by Peter Brown in 1825 famously during 70 years, this quaint distillery sits on the river Lossie, close to Elgin in Speyside, The distillery is managed by James Walker, the future founder of James Walker & co. In 1871, it came under the control of his son William Brown who completely restructured it as Linkwood-Glenlivet Distillery Co Ltd.Only 2% of the production is sold directly in the form of single malt whisky All the rest is either sold to traders or for the vast majority used for the manufacture of blends. The Linkwood is used in the manufacture of Bell, Whitehorse, Dimple, Johnnie Walker or Haig.
