The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher. The original name of the area was 'Maghellan', which came from the Gallic word 'magh', which means fertile soil, and 'Ellan', from the monk St Fillan, which was closely related to the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had already been making whisky on their Speyside farms for several centuries.

The 3rd entry in Macallan's ESC range - Exceptional Single Casks. Filled on November 20 1980 into a sherry butt and bottled on May 15 2002 at 21 years of age.
